A group of 18 students of A.Aleskerov secondary school No.244 of Baku visited academician Ali Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The executive director of the institute, doctor of chemical sciences Afsun Sujayev, having met with students, said that the unity of science and education should be not only with universities, but also with secondary schools: “According to the scientific competition for schoolchildren called “Scientists of Tomorrow”, which is held every year, we see that there are especially talented students in general education schools. It is necessary to take certain steps that can identify them at a younger age and direct them to science. One of these steps is the organization of open days and excursions for schoolchildren to research institutes. At the same time, it is expedient to hold various scientific competitions, science evenings, science days, etc. in the schools themselves.” He noted that the Institute, which he represents, attaches great importance to such events: “Institute laboratories are open to both students and schoolchildren, they are provided with a visual acquaintance with physical and chemical instruments. At the same time, talented students of individual schools in the capital and regions were provided with scientific support to develop their research skills, and the projects of our students who participated in national and international scientific competitions adequately represented our country and won.”
A.Sujayev informed the students about the history of the institute, activities, achievements, as well as about the prominent chemists of Azerbaijan who worked in this scientific institution – academician Ali Guliyev and the first female chemist, academician and actress Izzat Orujova.
School chemistry teacher Sevinj Gojayeva, Ph.D. in chemistry, thanked the leadership of the institute for creating conditions for familiarizing schoolchildren with laboratories. Then they visited various laboratories and got acquainted with the interesting research being carried out there and the principles of operation of physical and chemical devices.
Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute Gunay Ismayilova, young scientists and specialists Lala Aliyeva, Mir Ali Isakov and Sevinj Talybova answered numerous questions from students and demonstrated fun experiments to them.
