In the Hunan province of central China, a supertram has been built that works without an overhead network, Xinhua reported.

The novelty came off the production line of the Zhuzhou City Locomotive Company, which is part of the CRRC Corporation. The train receives electricity from supercapacitors installed in it, and it can travel 5 km for one 30-second charge.

The train of seven cars can carry up to 500 people and move at a maximum speed of 70 km/h. The tram is equipped with an autonomous driving system.

The new low-floor tram will be used on the line at Kunming Changshui International Airport in Yunnan Province in southwestern China.
