Chairman of the Council, PhD in Chemistry Afsun Gojayev was born in 1979 in the village of Zuvyuj, Lerik region. In 2001 he graduated from Ganja State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology, in 2003 he graduated from the University Magistrate with a diploma with distinction. In 2003-2007 he studied at the Doctorate of acad.A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He defended his thesis on “Synthesis and transformation of mono-, di-(2-hydroxypropyl)amines and their thiourea derivatives” in the specialty “Organic Chemistry”, was awarded the  degree. Currently, he is at the stage of completing his dissertation on the preparation of a science doctor dissertation. In 2017 he was awarded Assistant Professor scientific title.

To obtain a doctorate in chemical sciences, in 2012 he entered the correspondence department of the doctoral program of the Institute, specialty 2306.01 – Organic Chemistry and completed his studies in 2017. On September 25, 2018, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation “Synthesis and conversion of cyclic derivatives of thiourea amino alcohols based on three-component condensation reactions ”at the dissertation council at Baku State University.

Since 2005, he worked as a junior researcher, researcher, senior researcher and leading researcher in the laboratory “Theoretical Foundations of the Synthesis and Mechanism of Action of Additives” of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives, and since 2018 – head of this laboratory. He manages all the processes associated with the implementation of scientific research, preparation and submission of annual reports provided for in the laboratory work plan.

The main scientific direction of the laboratory is the development of new methods for the synthesis of cyclic thiocarbamides based on amino alcohols, which are rarely studied among sulfur compounds, the study of the obtained compounds as antioxidant and antimicrobial additives to lubricating oils, as well as their physiological activity and structure and the relationship between the mechanism of action, functional properties and structure. The novelty of his research work was confirmed by a patent issued by the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In all 77 scientific papers have been published, a monograph,  a Patent of the Azerbaijan Republic, 46 articles (6 articles by the author), the rest papers are abstracts. 20 articles were abstracted in the research engine ISI Web of Knowledge of the Institute of Scientific Information of the Thomson Reuters Agency (ISI) and published in foreign peer-reviewed journals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the information from Google Scholar Citations (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=LqalLiMAAAAJ&hl=ru&oi=ao) and the global Research Gate (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Afsun_Sujayev) 23 scientific papers of the author on the topic of his research were included in various international electronic systems, and 300 references were made to them.

He had practice at the Technical University of Orta Dogu, the universities of Hajettepe and Ataturk (Turkey). He is currently conducting joint international research with the staff of the Computer Research Center at the University of Buffalo on the application of theoretical chemistry in computer chemistry, with scientists from Turkey, Italy and Belarus on the synthesis and study of antioxidants and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors I and II against pathological processes in living organisms.

In 2013, he won grant competitions held by Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 2014 and 2018 by SOCAR Science Foundation among young scientists and specialists. This year he has been awarded the “Academician Ali Guliyev Prize” for his scientific achievements. A.Sujayev was awarded the joint prize of Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) and Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, “Web of Science Awards 2018”. He was awarded this high Prize in the nomination “The author of two articles highly cited in “Web of Science” (http://apps.webofknowledge.com/Search.do?product=WOS&SID=C5kmErdITZJqUfrwgce&search_mode=GeneralSearch&prID=3411538d-73da-4a4c-aa45-d01ca08260e8).

In 2013 he was elected the chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of acad.A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS.

The Council Activity

The Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of acad.A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS is one of the councils of ANAS, distinguished by its activity. This body, which coordinates the activities of about 50 young specialists working at the Institute, differs not only by public but also by scientific activities.

The most successful project implemented by the Council is the organization of scientific competitions in order to attract young specialists to science.

Individual and incentive competitions for young scientists in the Academy were held for the first time by the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives. Competitions for young people such as “Academician A.Guliyev Prize”, “Best Scientific Paper”, “Best Report” and “Young Specialist of the Year” dedicated to the birthday of the nationwide leader H.Aliyev have been already held for 3 years. Even Councils of Young Scientists and Specialists of other institutes of the Academy apply this positive experience in their activities.

In order to attract students and masters to science the “Open Doors” days are systematically organized for them. Until now, there has been provided a short-term practice for pupils of the lyceums of Kaspi, the Caucasus, as well as students and masters of the Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Sumgait State University, Ganja State University. At the same time, conditions have been created for carrying out by the masters the experimental part of their course and diploma work in the laboratories of the ICA.

The Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of acad.A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS establishes international relations to ensure the possibility of young specialists to practice at leading foreign scientific centers, as well as their participation in international conferences and symposia. So far, 5 young professionals (PhD in chemistry Afsun Sujayev and Emin Garibov, as well as Sabiya Osmanova, Kamran Hajiyev, Mansura Huseynova) have had a short-term practice in Turkey and Germany. 2 specialists (Khadija Mammadyarova, Sabiya Osmanova)have  made presentations at international conferences organized in Athens, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Minsk.

3 young specialists who are members of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists are conducting joint research with scientists from Italy, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The scientific results achieved by them in a short period of time were reflected in 1 monograph published in Germany, in 5 high impact factor journals of the USA and Great Britain, in the materials of 10 conferences.

The young specialists of the Institute, taking an active part in the implementation of international and local grant projects, contribute to the Azerbaijani science. To date, they have been winners of grant competitions held by the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the SOCAR Science Foundation

Members of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the ICA take an active part in the organization of important international and republican conferences, science festivals, exhibitions held at the Academy.

As a result of this activity, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the ICA became one of three Councils of Young Scientists and Specialists of institutes, invited as ANAS representatives for participation in the annual meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the CIS, held in October 2015 in Moscow.

It should be noted that all these achievements are vivid examples of attention and care given by the leadership of ANAS and the institute to the young people.
