An online dissertation defense of a graduate student conducting research under the joint scientific supervision of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS

The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of ANAS conducted the second year master’s theses online defence.

At the defence, which was by The Vice-President of ANAS, Director of the IMBB, Academician Irada Huseynova, Academician-Secretary of ANAS, Corresponding Member of the Academy, Professor Aminaga Sadigov, Head of the Department of Science and Education of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Economics Fail Kyazimov and other guests attended the meeting. 3 candidate dissertations in molecular biology in Azerbaijani, 1 in Russian, 2 in biochemistry, 1 in biotechnology and 1 in plant physiology at the Institute of Botany were presented. Extensive discussions were held on each topic of the dissertation. Based on the results of the assessment, it was decided to award the corresponding degree to the master students.

It should be noted that the second-year master  student in the specialty “Biochemistry” Nurana Gurbanova implemented a part of her master’s thesis on “The study of the antiviral activity of some synthetic antioxidant compounds in viral pathologies”, which is associated with fine organic synthesis, in the laboratory “Theoretical basis of synthesis and action mechanism of additives”of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS. Her supervisors were Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS, Doctor of Science in Chemistry, Associate Professor Afsun Sujayev and PhD  in Biology from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Durna Aliyeva.

The Defence Council rated Gurbanova’s master’s thesis at 95 points and recommended her diploma with honors.
