New liquid fertilizer from Hair

Scientists from India’s Kerala Agricultural University have prepared harmless liquid fertilizer from human hair.

Positive results have been achieved during initial field surveys. The hair from the local hairdressers as a raw material was washed and then heated to a dark substance. Conducted  analysis showed that human hair was rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur.

Research has revealed that fertilizer made from hair stimulates  growth of plants  faster than the synthetic fertilizer. The new type of fertilizer will reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and will also help to utilize human hair that is causing serious problems in Indian water purification systems.

In the preparation of new fertilizers it is planned to use animal hair, including feathers, wool and horns.
