The Japanese authorities plan to give citizens twice as much money to buy an electric car, writes NHK World Japan.
Currently, the authorities are allocating 400 thousand yen (about 3.8 thousand dollars). However, next year they want to double their payments (up to 7.6 thousand dollars). The battery must be charged with renewable energy, such as a solar-powered home or office that generates energy.
As the newspaper notes, renewable energy in private homes costs as much (or 20-30 percent more) than traditional ones. The measure is intended to stimulate, among other things, the introduction of environmentally friendly types of energy.
Last year, about 20 thousand electric vehicles were sold in the country, Lenta reports.
