The scientific and organizational activities of academician A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2023 were fruitful. According to the executive director of the institute, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Afsun Sujayev, in 2023, using the capabilities of fine organic synthesis and computer modeling for various purposes, fundamental and applied research was carried out on 12 topics and 35 stages, covering one current direction and one problem in the field of targeted synthesis of organic reagents and composite materials for various purposes, highly effective physiologically active compounds, including potential medicinal substances and studying the mechanism of functional action, and 11 most important results were obtained – 6 fundamental and 5 applied ones.
Speaking about the most important results, A.Sujayev said that within the framework of joint international research, a new generation of inhibitors of some pathological processes of living organisms, consisting of new heterocyclic compounds containing a thiocyanate group, was created. In particular, new carbonic anhydrase isoenzyme inhibitors have potential therapeutic effects because they can prevent dilation and occlusion of blood vessels and capillaries.
Concerning applied nature, A.Sujayev emphasized that during the research of the institute’s scientists, a new motor oil which ensured the operation of high-strength diesel engines of special-purpose ground vehicles with turbocharging in all-season operating conditions was created: “The creation of special-purpose lubricants, which are strategic materials, increases the defense capability of our country, reduces dependence on foreign countries and promotes the development of the defense industry. The production of new oil is carried out at the Pilot Industrial Plant, which is a resident of the High Technologies Park. Testing of the newly created special-purpose motor oil begun on the appropriate special equipment at the disposal of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the first results were positive.”
