Today, at academician A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a meeting was held with students who successfully participated in the XIII Republican competition “Scientists of Tomorrow” and won gold and bronze medals.
Director General of the Institute, Academician Vagif Farzaliyev, who opened the event with an introductory speech, noted that the main goal of holding such meetings with today’s schoolchildren and tomorrow’s scientists was to further strengthen the unity of science and education, create interest in conducting fundamental and applied scientific research among talented students as part of further expansion connections with schools: “It is necessary to work together with schools to develop interest in science among students with innate talent, starting from younger age groups. An interesting aspect of natural sciences that are somewhat difficult to understand, such as chemistry and biology, is conducting laboratory experiments. When pupils are taught experimential lessons, they become interested in and love those subjects. At the same time, any scientific ideas are of particular interest.”
V.Farzaliyev noted that the Republican Competition “Scientists of Tomorrow”, held by the Ministry of Science and Education, is of great importance for stimulating schoolchildren to study science: “Since 2014, the Institute of Chemistry of Additives has been cooperating with many schools located both in the capital and regions of the republic. As a result of this, the projects completed by students in the laboratories of the institute as a part of this competition became winners of these competitions and international knowledge competitions. Previously, students from school No.251 in Baku won bronze medal at the OKSEF creative youth scientific competition, held in the Turkish city of Izmir, and Mingachevir schoolchildren won silver and bronze medals at the OKSEF competition, and in 2022 won a bronze medal at the “Scientists of Tomorrow” competition.
He noted that this year was more successful: “The project “Creation of new generation isoenzyme inhibitors against Alzheimer’s disease” implemented by 10th grade students of the World School Said Aslanov and Ibrahim Allahvediyev in the laboratory “Physiologically active organic compounds” under the scientific guidance of the executive director of the Institute, Professor Afsun Sujayev was awarded 1st place – the gold medal of the competition.
The scientific project on the topic “Cleaning oil-contaminated soils and reservoirs using the biophytoremediation method”, carried out by 11th grade students of Baku City Secondary School No. 6 Elmira Kazimova and Aisu Mustafazadeh under the scientific guidance of the institute’s researchers Konul Kahramanova and Aygun Almamedova, took third place – bronze medal.”
According to the executive director, Professor Afsun Sujayev, it is joyful that one of the winning students, Said Aslanov, is the great-grandson of academician Ali Guliyev, a world-famous scientist, founder of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives. These students will represent our country at ISTF, the International Science and Technology Fair organized by the Society for Science in the United States.
The head of the laboratory, Professor Parvin Mammadova, and the project manager, Konul Kahramanova, shared their opinions about the students-winners and noted that their hardworking and talented character played a key role in their ability to excel.
At the end, the winners were awarded diplomas from the institute.
