In accordance with the plan of events related to the “Green World Solidarity Year,” seminars on environmental education continue at Academician Ali Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On July 9, 2024, the institute organized another seminar on the topic “Green energy and its prospects.”
The executive director of the institute, Professor Afsun Sujayev, who made an opening speech, said that very serious work of national importance is being carried out in our country in the direction of solving global environmental problems, improving the environment in our country, restoring landscaping, ensuring the efficient use of water resources and sustainable energy sources. Our scientists are also trying to contribute to the declared environmental movement by conducting fundamental and applied scientific research in their fields.
A.Sujayev noted that the purpose of the seminars dedicated to the “Green World Solidarity Year” is to discuss the results of research carried out to date and identify promising areas of action as a continuation of these studies.
Then the leading researcher at the Fuel Compositions laboratory, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry Lala Mahmudova gave an extensive report on the topic “Green Energy and Its Prospects.”
She noted that one of the main areas of research work carried out in the laboratory where she works is the synthesis and study of compounds based on a number of acetals, ketals and alkylphenols in order to increase the cetane number of diesel fuel and reduce the amount of smoke and harmful gases when used. The influence of the compounds synthesized by her on the processes occurring during the storage and operation of fuels has been studied.
L. Mahmudova also added that one of the areas of research work carried out in the laboratory is related to the creation of environmentally friendly, high-quality additives and fuel compositions based on biodiesel fuel: “For this purpose, the esterification reaction of vegetable oils is carried out, heteroatoms (N, S) and functional groups with certain quality indicators are included.”
According to her, these scientific directions developed in the laboratory will make it possible to effectively solve a number of issues of the country’s economy and protect the environmental safety.
The head of the laboratory, Doctor of Technical Sciences Yulduz Ramazanova, Ph.D. in chem., leading reseacher Nusrat Aliyev and others expressed their opinions and suggestions regarding the presentation.
