In order to fulfill the tasks arising from the Action Plan of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan to declare 2024 the “Green World Solidarity Year” in the Republic of Azerbaijan, an environmental seminar on the topic “Regeneration of waste motor oils and new areas of their application based on the obtained products” was held on May 1, 2024 at Academician Ali Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives .
The executive director of the institute, Professor Afsun Sujayev, who made an opening speech, said: “This year was declared by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, as the “Green World Solidarity Year.” Also in November of this year, another prestigious event will be held in Baku – COP29 (“Conference of the Parties”). COP29, which will be held in our country, requires our research institutes as well as chemical scientists to conduct fundamental and applied research as new challenges. Conducting these studies will contribute to the economic development of our republic, as well as solving environmental problems and improving the ecological situation.”
A. Sujayev noted that at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives preference was always given to scientific activities aimed at solving environmental problems; in this regard, in separate laboratories of the institute, research was carried out in 4 different areas and important fundamental and applied results were obtained. According to him, one of the goals of the environmental education seminars is to discuss the results of studies already conducted and to determine a long-term plan of action as a continuation of these studies.
Then Aida Yusifova, PhD, leading researcher at the Lubricating Compositions laboratory, gave an extensive report on the topic “Regeneration of used motor oils and new areas of their application based on the resulting products.” She noted that one of the main areas of research work carried out in the laboratory was the creation of a technology for the regeneration of used samples of lubricants used in various types of equipment, and the creation of various lubricant compositions based on regenerated petroleum products by eliminating waste oils released into the environment and thus helping to solve the environmental problems of our republic.
Regarding the speech, the scientific secretary PhD Mehpara Safarova, heads of the laboratory, professors Hagigat Javadova and Doctor of Chemical Sciences Elmira Nagiyeva expressed their opinions and suggestions.
