Fourth-year students of the Faculty of Chemistry at Baku State University (BSU) will undergo practical training in the relevant laboratories of academician A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives (ICA) of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Azerbaijan Republic.
The general director of the institute, academician Vagif Farzaliyev, spoke at the meeting with the students. He said that the ICA, being one of the rare specialized scientific centers both in the Soviet period and during the period of independence, had achieved fundamental results. World-famous chemists, who were the authors of innovative scientific achievements of global and national significance, worked in this temple of science. The experience of tomorrow’s teacher, scientist, specialist in such an environment gives them an additional advantage. The academician noted that the institute he heads closely cooperates with BSU in the direction of integrating science and education: “Within the framework of this cooperation, students are provided with practical training. In a sense, you consolidate the theoretical knowledge acquired during 4 years of study at the university with practical knowledge. The laboratories have created every opportunity for students to receive relevant knowledge, they will become familiar with the operating principles of instruments and equipment in laboratories, the nature and content of the research being carried out, and will be able to join such research.”
Professor Ibrahim Mammadov, head of the department of petrochemistry and chemical technology of BSU, who took part in the meeting, said that since the creation of the basic department of petrochemistry and chemical technology of the chemical faculty “Additives, lubricants, oils and cutting fluids” at the institute, students perceive this scientific center as their work places. He noted that all conditions had been created here for undergraduate and graduate students studying chemistry and teaching specialties in chemistry at the university’s chemical faculty at the base department. He emphasized that the level of cooperation between the faculty and the ICA was very high, many employees of the institute participated as teachers in the process of training students and graduate students, everyone was satisfied with their work – from the management of the university to the management of the department. I.Mamedov expressed gratitude to the management of the institute for the care and attention shown to the students.
Executive Director of the ICA, Professor Afsun Sujayev made a speech. He said that during the internship period, students would be involved in research work by the institute’s research staff and have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge acquired during practice in real working conditions, according to the program prepared for them. At the same time, he noted that, according to tradition, in order to increase the interest of students undergoing internship this year, diplomas would be awarded to three students selected for their knowledge, skills and behavior.
The students were then divided into groups and assigned to separate laboratories.
