Digital immortality and dangerous robots: futurist Michio Kaku told about the future of humanity

Perhaps the most resonant statement of the futurist is the attainment of immortality by humanity by 2100. To date, about 60 genes have been identified that are responsible for the aging process, and Kaku is confident that by the end of the century scientists will be able to fully control this phenomenon – up to a complete halt. The scientist believes that aging is just a process of accumulating genetic errors. Having corrected them, a person can live forever.

Another interesting prediction is the replacement of the Internet with Brainet. Over the next 80-100 years, scientists must fully learn to read and digitize human thoughts. Such an unimaginable thing, like, for example, a picture of a dream will become the reality. Each of us (or rather our descendants) will be able to directly exchange thoughts and emotions with others – through special neurointerfaces. Digitalization of the mind also completely can change the art. For example, to create a picture, it will be enough just to think about it, and movies will be “made” right in the human head.

Not all forecasts of Michio Kaku are optimistic. The scientist believes that the development of artificial intelligence will sooner or later make robots dangerous to humans. Now one of the most intelligent robots in the world, Asimo, has “the mind of a cockroach,” as Kaku said. But by the end of the century they can catch up with the conventional monkey, and gain self-consciousness. If a futurist is right – robots can start fighting for an exit from parental control, and it is necessary to think about limiting them right now.

Also Kaku gave a forecast on how the labor market will change. Artificial intelligence will completely supplant brokers, accountants, cashiers, legal assistants and managers. But such seemingly simple works as a gardener, plumber or garbage collector, will remain for people. All because the robot does not recognize unfamiliar patterns and does not have common sense. Therefore, live people will have to  distinguish garbage from useful things, deal with clogs and bring beauty.
