The 123rd Nobel Week kicked off in Sweden on October 7. As Nobel Week opened with the announcement of the Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine at the Royal Institute, the Karolinsk Institute in Sweden announced for the first time the names of the 2024 Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Victor Ambrose, Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Gary Ruvkun, Researcher at Harvard Medical School, “For the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.”
The names of the laureates in the five most popular nominations in other fields, namely Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Peace, will be announced in the coming days.
The aim of Nobel Week is to encourage the younger generation and increase their interest in science, literature, and human rights.
It should be noted that the Nobel Prize was established by the will of the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), known as the inventor of dynamite, and has been awarded since 1901.

The award ceremony for the Nobel Prize laureates is held in Stockholm every year on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
