A regular meeting of the Academic Council of Academician A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has been held today. Heads of laboratories and departments took part in the event dedicated to the discussion of promising issues of research institutes’ activities in the context of a pandemic. The director of the institute, academician Vagif Farzaliyev said:  «While the quarantine regime remains in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, the institute’s employees carry out their activities in compliance with the requirements: taking into account the orders and instructions of the Operational Headquarters and the Presidium of ANAS, employees are involved in work on the basis of a sequence schedule for several weeks. Naturally, it is necessary to provide them with appropriate assignments. Therefore, we decided that heads of laboratories and departments over 65 years of age should come to work twice a week to provide guidance on scientific research. The rest of the days of the week, they can control the work using remote online control».

Farzaliyev said that ANAS and research institutes had a development concept for 2020-2025: «This document has specific goals. To achieve these goals, we must work harder as a research institution and contribute to academia, our country’s economy and society as a whole. To ensure a high level of scientific research carried out at the Academic Institute, first of all, it is necessary to increase the responsibility of researchers. Heads of laboratories must monitor the timely and high-quality performance of the work entrusted to them in each laboratory. Every laboratory worker, from researchers to laboratory assistants and technicians, must do his job every day. At the same time, attention should be paid to improving their knowledge and skills so that tomorrow they can do independent research».

Farzaliyev said that the scientific activities of the Institute’s employees have already been assessed: «We have assessed the activities of the laboratories for 2015-2019 for 5 years, as well as the individual activities of research workers, and have determined the rating list. The ranking list will be used as the basis for laboratory accreditation and employee certification. We will carry out this process in 2020 as well. Therefore, scientists should integrate into world science, be interested in publishing articles in prestigious journals, make reports at international conferences, in short, actively work to improve their scientific indicators».

Farzaliyev noted that the institute, as a scientific institution conducting fundamental theoretical and applied scientific research and training highly qualified personnel, taking into account the modern challenges of world science and the current requirements of the country’s economy, would, if necessary, revise the structure and directions of its activities.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director for Scientific Work, D.Sc. in Chemistry, Associate Professor Afsun Sujayev, Scientific Secretary, PhD in Chemistry Mehpara Safarova, Deputy Director for General Issues Elman Zulfugarov, Head of Human Resources Department  Rafiga Mammadova, Head of the Laboratory and Chairman of the Institute Trade Union, PhD in Chemistry Elkhan Isakov, senior researchers – D.Sc. in Technics, Associate Professor Elmira Nagiyeva, D.Sc.in Chemistrye Sabira Sardarova and others.
