An information seminar devoted to the discussion of the tasks provided for in the Roadmap announced for 2022 on improving the indicators of the international rating of scientific publications was held at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS. The Executive Director of the Institute, Doctor of Chemistry, Associate Professor Afsun Sujayev made a presentation on the topic “Rules for the use of scientific databases and academic social networks.” He has stated that it is important to place previously published, but not available on the Internet, articles of scientific institutions in open academic systems (Research Gate, Academia, SSRN, etc.): “According to the studies, in the former USSR, a part of which Our republic was for many years, as in other areas, there was also a “closed regime” in science, so international cooperation with the world’s leading scientific centers, scientific bases and scientific journals was impossible. Scientists of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS, which has been functioning since 1965, during the Soviet Union and in the first years of our independence, could publish their scientific works in Russian journals. Most of these journals, with a few exceptions, are not currently viewed on open academic systems. Therefore, scientists of the world did not have the opportunity to refer to the articles published during the Soviet period.
A.Sujayev noted that in order to promote both preparation of scientific articles in accordance with international standards and expanding access to the world’s leading publications, at the laboratory “Patent research, innovation and forecasting of scientific work in the field of organic chemistry” of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS consulting board was organized, and in each laboratory a responsible person was appointed to carry out this work, and awareness-raising activities are regularly carried out with them: “In order to study the procedure for using scientometric databases and academic social networks for the preparation of scientific articles by the employees of the institute in accordance with international standards, as well as publication of articles in archived journals, in the world’s leading scientific databases (“Web of Science”, “Scopus”), educational seminars were held on the topic “Preparation of scientific articles in accordance with international standards”, “Ways for scientists to access global scientific networks and prestigious journals of the world”, “Creation of academic profile pages of researchers”. The seminars provide detailed information on the preparation of articles in accordance with the rules of various prestigious journals with a high impact factor of the world’s most famous publishers, such as “Elsevier”, “Springer”, “Wiley” and “Taylor & Francis”, writing in a foreign language without errors in terms of grammar, rules for submitting to journals in an online format. As a result of these awareness-raising activities, the number of articles published by the Institute staff in prestigious journals during the reporting period increased significantly compared to previous years. As a natural result of these events, over the 6 months of 2022, the Institute’s staff published articles in 16 prestigious foreign journals, 13 of which were in journals with an impact factor. 9 articles were sent for publication in a foreign journals.
He stated that in the direction of continuing and expanding cooperation between authoritative scientists of the world, as well as our compatriots working in various educational institutions, the relevant work has been done: “The Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS cooperates with authoritative scientists from leading world scientific centers in the field of fundamental research, including Azerbaijani scientists working in various educational institutions of the world, including Dr. Claudio T.Supuran, professor at the University of Florence in Italy, one of the most respected scientists in the world, the total number of references to whose scientific works is 107415, the index Hirsch is 155, with Dr. Ilhami Gulcin, Professor of the Department of Chemistry at Atatürk University in Turkey, general Joint international research is carried out with scientific centers, the total number of references to whose scientific works is 32177, the Hirsch index is 93.
The Executive Director emphasized that a number of support measures are being implemented to increase the number of publications by scientists of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS in journals with a high index. “Thus, based on the evaluation of the scientific activities of each scientist by scientific criteria, in order to motivate the Institute’s scientific staff to science and encourage healthy competition between them, in academic networks such as Google Scholar, Research Gate, Mendeley.com, Academia.edu and others profile pages were created. Based on the data taken from these academic networks, mainly the number of articles published in journals included in the scientific databases Web of Science, Scopus and RSCI, links to them, H-index and other scientometric criteria are evaluated, scientists are ranked and they are rewarded.”
Then there was a discussion around the report.
