Azerbaijan chemical science has suffered a loss. At the age of 85, Mirza Mammad oglu Movsumzadeh, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, professor, a famous scientist in the field of organic chemistry, who worked for many years at Academician A.Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, died.
Honored Scientist, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Movsumzadeh Mirza Mammad oglu was born on October 17, 1939 in the city of Baku in an intelligent family. Having received secondary education at school No.36 in Baku, in 1958 he was admitted to the chemical technology department of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, and after graduating from the academy in 1963 he began working at the Azerbaijan Institute of Petrochemical Processes. In 1968, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Synthesis of derivatives of α-monochlorohydrin glycerol esters and studies as additives for oils and stabilizers for polymer materials”, and in 1986 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Synthesis of effective metal corrosion inhibitors for electrolyte-hydrocarbon systems and development of production technology,” received the degree of Doctor of Chemical Sciences, and in 1991 he was awarded the academic title of professor. In 1967-1983 he worked as a junior and senior researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS, in 1984-2021 he worked as the head of the laboratory “Fuel Additives” and deputy director for scientific work of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives.
Mirza Movsumzadeh is a famous scientist in the field of petrochemistry. His scientific activities are directly related to the laboratory “Lubricants and Additives”, headed by academician A.Guliyev at ANAS, and the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of ANAS, the only specialized scientific center in the former USSR, organized on its basis in 1965. The main direction of his scientific activity is the targeted synthesis of various functionally  highly effective corrosion inhibitors, the preparation of mixtures of inhibitors based on them, as well as the development of the scientific basis for the creation of highly effective additives that improve the performance properties of fuels. A number of inhibitors, additives and lubricants, including special-purpose oils, created under his leadership and with direct participation, have found application in industry. In recent years, one of his scientific works has been the development of environmentally friendly fuel additives based on biodiesel fuel and its derivatives obtained as a result of the transesterification reaction of vegetable oils.
Mirza Mammad oglu Movsumzadeh was awarded Certificates of Honor of ANAS 3 times (1999, 2004, 2009), the honorary title “Honored Scientist” in 2005 and the Order of Glory in 2015.
The bright memory of Mirza Movsumzadeh, a famous scientist in the field of chemistry, a kind and noble person, will always live in the hearts of those who know him.
Rest in peace!
