Academician Ali Guliyev Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan hosted an event in connection with December 31, the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
The Director General of the Institute, Academician Vagif Farzaliyev, said that the celebration of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis as a holiday at the highest level became a significant event in the history of public opinion of our people: «Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, a holiday for each of us, aimed at creating the unity of our compatriots living on different continents of the world, was established by our national leader Heydar Aliyev. On his initiative, on December 16, 1991, the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic decided to establish Day of Solidarity and unity. If you remember, on November 9-10, 2001, the First Congress of World Azerbaijanis was held in Baku. The Great leader Heydar Aliyev, who made a profound speech at the congress, expressed his opinion on ensuring the national unity and solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the world, strengthening relations between the Azerbaijani state and the Azerbaijanis of the world, the need to join efforts in solving problems, including the preservation and development of their native language, national and moral values. “For every person, his nationality is a matter of pride. I have always been proud, and today I am proud that I am Azerbaijani!” These words of the wise leader have become a symbol of national pride for each of our compatriots.”
Farzaliyev noted that the establishment of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis also created an opportunity to expand political, economic, scientific and cultural ties between our compatriots living in different countries.
The Director General said that scientists should make serious efforts to further develop science in our country. Speaking at the event, the executive director of the institute, doctor of chemical sciences Afsun Sujayev stressed that the celebration of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis on December 31 is of great importance: “Determining the date of the holiday, the national leader brought a kind of national underlying theme to the New Year. Because if the roots of our national solidarity go back to the popular movement that took place on the square in November 1988, and the 1st Congress of World Azerbaijanis took place on November 9-10, then, in principle, Solidarity Day could be celebrated this very month. However, the great figure chose December 31 as the Day of Solidarity and stated that the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis is more important for our people than the New Year. March 21 – Novruz Bayram, which is already a harbinger of the new year for our people, is celebrated more magnificently».
Sujayev stated that during the 44-day Patriotic War, the Azerbaijanis of the world demonstrated the best example of solidarity and showed that there is no other people in the world capable of creating the unity of the people-army-Supreme Commander in this form: “Today, our unity continues in a different form. Because our people have higher goals. To achieve this, we definitely need more solidarity.”
