The scientific conference dedicated to the Green World Solidarity Year was jointly organized by the Department of Chemical Sciences of ANAS and the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education.
First, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the Motherland.
Vice President of ANAS, Director General of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, Academician Dilgam Taghiyev opened the event held at the institute with an opening speech, welcomed the participants and emphasized that the event was held taking into account the relevant Decree of President Ilham Aliyev on declaring 2024 the Green World Solidarity Year. He highly appreciated the conference as one of initiatives on the contribution of intellectuals and scientists to the fulfillment of the duties arising from the provisions of the said Decree.
Academician Dilgam Taghiyev said that one of the five national priorities of the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan until 2030 was defined as “Country of Clean Environment and Green Growth”, he emphasized that fundamental work was being carried out to ensure it. The Vice President noted that there are currently 10 national parks and 11 state nature reserves in Azerbaijan, forests and “green zones” occupy 11.8 percent of the territory of the republic. He said that forests were restored and new green zones were created in the forest fund of Azerbaijan, which was subjected to vandalism by Armenians during the occupation.
Further, Academician Dilgam Taghiyev said that Gunel Azimova, an employee of the institute, was awarded the “Professional Youth of 2023” prize by the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan for special achievements in work, study and social activities. He also congratulated the scientists of the institute who took 3rd place in the competition held by the All-Russian Scientific Research Society.
President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli, speaking at the conference, noted the importance of declaring 2024 the Green World Solidarity Year in our country by the corresponding decree of the head of state. He noted that various new concepts and views, such as “green zone”, “green economy”, “green technologies”, “green energy”, “green synthesis”, as well as new directions related to the green world, have entered our lexicon. The head of ANAS noted that the events held within the framework of the Green World Solidarity Year would lead to further development and modernization of the most diverse territories of Azerbaijan, and at the same time would open up new prospects for accelerating processes in our country that resonate with the global challenges of the world. Academician Isa Habibbayli said that ANAS was organizing various events in connection with the Green World Solidarity Year.
The scientist also noted that holding COP29 in Azerbaijan, one of the largest and most prestigious interstate events in the world, played an important role in the implementation of the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev in the direction of turning our country into a country of “green” technologies. Academician Isa Habibbayli, recalling the Decree “On the establishment of the Day of State Sovereignty in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, signed by President Ilham Aliyev on September 19, 2024, assessed this document as a significant historical event in the socio-political life of our country. According to him, Azerbaijan has declared its state independence twice before. On May 28, 1918, the Declaration of Independence was drawn up and signed by the National Council of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan in Tbilisi. On October 18, 1991, the Constitutional Act “On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was adopted. He noted that this was a continuation of the Declaration of Independence, the Act of Independence, and this was a document that completed and confirmed it. “The establishment of the Day of State Sovereignty in the Republic of Azerbaijan is a confirmation of the words of Heydar Aliyev: “Our independence is eternal, permanent, irreversible,” said the head of ANAS, emphasizing that the Azerbaijani flag fluttered throughout the territory of our country. The 44-day Patriotic War, local anti-terrorist measures carried out in Azerbaijan and other processes made it possible to celebrate the day of our sovereignty at the state level. He said that this was the pinnacle of President Ilham Aliyev’s struggle to strengthen our state independence founded by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Academician Isa Habibbayli, noting that today ANAS conducts research in accordance with the calls of the head of state and the priority areas of modern world science, recalled that the Academy of Sciences was elected a member of 4 prestigious international scientific institutions.
At the end of his speech, the head of ANAS spoke about the sustainable, innovative development of Azerbaijan, environmental issues.
