On May 16, 2023, the leadership of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a meeting with former doctoral students and dissertators who completed their studies but did not defend their dissertations.
Academician Vagif Farzaliyev, General Director of the Institute, said that one of the main tasks of research institutions was to train highly qualified personnel: “It is a pity that in many cases those who entered doctoral and dissertation programs for the preparation of doctors of philosophy and sciences, even after a long time after graduation studies are not protected. This creates difficulties in providing highly qualified personnel with scientific degrees and academic titles both for the institute itself, and for universities and other scientific organizations.”
He emphasized that every scientific specialist who continues his work in doctoral and dissertation studies, completing his scientific work at a high level and receiving an appropriate academic degree, benefits not only his personality, but also our country, state, nation as a whole: “Therefore, defending a dissertation, you should not treat it only as your own personal matter. This is also a common question.” V.Farzaliyev noted with regret that sometimes doctoral students and dissertators did not take responsibility for their scientific work, they were sure that instead of them articles and dissertations would be written by their supervisors.
V. Farzaliyev also noted that the institute could provide some assistance in solving such problems facing doctoral students and dissertators who had completed their studies, such as completing their dissertations, promptly purchasing reagents and solvents necessary to carry out the experimental part, preparing and publishing scientific papers in prestigious journals, increasing the level of foreign language proficiency, etc.
Executive Director of the Institute, Doctor of Chemistry, Assoc.Afsun Sujayev stressed that such meetings should be held constantly. He noted that it was necessary to prepare educated and knowledgeable youth for our people, and for this, young people must work on themselves. He said that he would always support the youth, and a separate educational seminar on various topics would be organized for doctoral students and dissertators.
Then, dissertators and doctoral students, whose academic period ended in previous years, but who did not defend their dissertations, gave detailed information about the status of their research works, the number of published works on dissertational topics, the degree of completion of dissertations.
